Itinerary

Day 1. Leave USA

 

Day 2. Arrive in Osaka.

Transfer to Kyoto You will arrive in either Itami or Kansai Airport. Let us know what airline you will take; we will inform you how to get to your hotel in Tokyo.

 

Day 3. Kyoto

Free day. Sightseeing information will follow. We can also arrange a licensed guide or refer you to a volunteer guide for sightseeing.

 

Day 4. Kyoto

Free day.

 

Day 5. Kyoto

Free day.

 

Day 6. Kyoto to Yasugi to Matsue

Send your suitcase from Kyoto to Matsue. Ride the train to Yasugi. Then take the bus to and from the Adachi Museum, whose spectacular gardens have been ranked the finest by the Journal of Japanese Gardens. Take the train to Matsue. Your hotel is within walking distance to the famed Matsue castle.

 

Day 7. Matsue

Visit the Matsue Castle, the Samurai House, Lafcadio Hearn’s former residence, etc.

 

Day 8. Matsue – Sakai Minato – Nishino-shima Island

Leave your suitcase at the hotel in Matsue. Travel with an overnight bag to Nishino-shima in the Oki Islands. Take a bus from Matsue to Sakai Minato. Take the ferry to the Oki Islands. In two and a half hours, you will arrive at Nishino-shima Island (one of the Oki Islands). Enjoy a full ocean view from your room. (incl. Dinner)

 

Day 9. Nishimo-shima

Explore the Island. (incl. Breakfast and Dinner)

 

Day 10. Nishimo-shima – Sakai Minato – Matsue

Take the ferry boat back to Sakai Minato. Take the bus to Matsue. (incl. Breakfast)

 

Day 11. Matsue – Hamada – Sakurae

Send your suitcase from Matsue to Hagi. Ride the train from Matsue to Hamada. Get a bus from Hamada to Sakurae. You will stay at a hot-spring resort inn. (incl. Dinner)

 

Day 12. Sakurae

You will meet a local guide in the morning and explore the town of Sakura-e. Visit local shrines, the Kagura Dance museum, Mizuno-kuni (a water-themed museum), or enjoy a leisurely hike with the guide. At night, see the Kagura Dance, a traditional sacred dance performed by the locals. (incl. Breakfast and Dinner)

 

Day 13. Sakurae – Hamada – Hagi

Take the bus and train to Hagi, a beautiful, quaint pottery town by the Sea. Hagi is also known as a town which produced many historical heroes who played important roles in the Meiji Restoration in 1867. Enjoy the walk on the old streets with the rows of well-preserved traditional homes. You will stay in an ocean-front hotel. (incl. Breakfast)

 

Day 14 Hagi

Day 15. Hagi to Yamaguchi airport to Haneda/Narita Airport – U.S.A.

Take the airport shuttle from Hagi to Yamaguchi Airport. Fly from Yamaguchi to Haneda or Narita. We will provide more detailed information after we get your flight information.
