Itinerary

Day 1.  Leave U.S.A.

 

Day 2.  Arrive in Tokyo

You will arrive at either the Haneda or Narita Airports.  Let us know what airline you will fly into Tokyo; we will inform you on how to get to your hotel in Tokyo.


Day 3. Tokyo

Free day.  Even if you are not a big fan of a large city, you will find Tokyo a little different from other cities.  Tokyo will show you various faces: ultra modern and traditional, formal and informal, homogeneous and international.  Explore the city and enjoy people-watching.

 

Day 4. Tokyo
Free day.

 

Day 5. Tokyo to Nikko
Leaving your suitcase at the hotel in Tokyo, you will travel with an overnight bag to Nikko. After taking the cozy express train, “Spacia”, to Nikko you will explore the historic Nikko Toshogu shrine and the Rin-no-ji Temple while staying at a furnished Japanese house in a quiet residential area.

 

Day 6. Nikko to Tokyo
Free in the morning.  Take the train back to Tokyo.

 

Day 7. Tokyo to Narai
Sending your suitcase to Kanazawa, you will carry a three-night-four-day bag for the trip to the Japanese Alps. A three and a half hour train ride will take you from Tokyo to a quaint and small old town which flourished in the 17th century.  You will stay at a “Royokan” -  a 200-year-old traditional inn. You will be served a traditional dinner and breakfast which will include local specialties.

 

Day 8. Narai – Matsumoto – Takayama
You will take the train to Matsumoto, then transfer to a bus for Takayama.  Enjoy the view of the Japan Alps and swift rivers running through the mountains.   Explore Takayama, an old charming town with well-preserved centuries-old merchants establishments.  You will stay in a cozy lodging run by a friendly family.

 

Day 9. Takayama
Free day

 

Day 10. Takayama – Shirakawago – Kanazawa
You will take the bus to Shirakawago.  Spend some time there, then take another bus to Kanazawa.  Your hotel is located close to the renowned Kenrokuen Park, the old town district and the busy city shopping area. 

 

Day 11. Kanazawa
Free

 

Day 12. Kanazawa
Free

 

Day 13.  Kanazawa to Kyoto
Send your suitcase to your hotel in Kyoto.  Take the train from Kanazawa to Kyoto.  Your hotel is in the vicinity of the Kyoto Station, a department store, and an underground shopping mall.

 

Day 14. Kyoto
Free day.   Sightseeing information will follow. We can also arrange a licensed guide or refer you to a volunteer guide for sightseeing.

Day 18. Kyoto – Osaka (either Itami or Kansai) Airport - USA
Transfer to the airport. We will provide more detailed information after we get your flight information.
